NEWPORT, R.I. – The Salve Regina University men's soccer team vaulted to fifth place in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) with a six-game win streak and nine-game unbeaten streak. After not making the league's postseason in 2016, the Seahawks started 2017 winless in their first three games of regular season CCC play (0-2-1). No. 5 Salve Regina plays at No. 4 Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday, October 28 (12 p.m.). The Seahawks and Leopards met on October 1 on Reynolds Field and finished with a 1-1 draw in double overtime. After tying Dean College by the same score in its next game (non-league), Salve Regina won six straight, including five by a one-goal margin.

Endicott College clinched at least the No. 2 seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's soccer championships with a 3-1 victory over Salve Regina University on Tuesday at Reynolds Field. Endicott ended Salve Regina's win streak at six games and unbeaten streak at nine games. After scoring the game's first goal in the 71st minute, Evan Couchot dribbled into the top right corner of the box and unloaded a cannon past Salve Regina keeper Michael Payan (Fort Lee, N.J.) for a 2-0 lead. Matthew O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored his fifth goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 80th minute.

SEAHAWKS NOTES FROM THE NEST
- Salve Regina last won the conference championship in 2012.
- Donald Igo (Needham, Mass.) leads the Seahawks with 10 goals, three assists, 23 points. He was named the CCC Offensive Player of the Week (Oct. 16-22) when he helped Salve Regina to a pair of 2-1 road wins with his three goals.
- Jared Warren (Georgetown, Mass.) ranks second on the Seahawks with seven goals, four assists, 18 points.
- Evan MacDonald (Candia, N.H.) ranks tied for fourth in the league with six assists.
- Junior goalkeeper Michael Payan (Fort Lee, N.J.) has logged 1,326 minutes in net for the Seahawks with a 1.22 goals against average and a .763 save percentage (58 saves). Payan also has assisted on two goals in 2017.
LEOPARD LISTINGS
- After knocking off 2016 regular-season champion Endicott College in last year's semifinals, Wentworth finished as runner-up to Western New England University.
- The Leopards also lost to the Golden Bears in the championship game in 2007 and 2009.
- Sophomore Griffin Price leads the Leopards with 13 goals, two assists, 28 points, and he ranks second in the league in both goals and assists.
- Senior Emmet Basaca leads the conference with 11 assists on the season.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Salve Regina leads the all-time series, 21-15-3, but Wentworth has won four of the last five meetings including a 5-1 playoff contest on Halloween in 2015 in Boston. This year's regular-season meeting got pushed back a day (from September 30 to October 1) on Reynolds Field. A pair of backup goalkeepers forged a 1-1 draw for their respective teams as Salve Regina University senior Evan Coose (Easton, Mass.) and Wentworth Institute of Technology sophomore Philip Chomicki (Dorchester, Mass.) both ran their personal record to 1-0-1. Wentworth limited Salve Regina to one shot in the overtime periods. PJ Criscione (Boxford, Mass.) scored in the ninth minute with help from Jordan Elster (Sutton, Mass.) before Stephen Frazier knotted the game at 1-1 with an assist from Emmett Basaca.
