Salve Regina University Athletics - Why Salve Regina?

The Salve Regina CampusAerial image of the Salve Regina University campus in Newport, Rhode Island
Founded by the Sisters of Mercy, Salve Regina University, a private, non-profit institution, opened in 1947. Its 80-acre campus borders the famed Cliff Walk in one of Newport, Rhode Island’s historic districts. Offering what the National Trust for Historic Preservation has described as a “tour of the great architectural works of the Gilded Age,” the campus is set on seven contiguous estates and features 21 historic structures that have been sensitively adapted to meet University needs while also preserving their status as treasures of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
