BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Nathan Gosselin's (Hudson, N.H.) goal with 16:05 remaining snapped a 1-all tie and lifted the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Salve Regina in the quarterfinal round of the 2017 Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament.

With the win the Leopards improve to 10-7-2 and advance, for the third straight season, to the semifinal round where they will either travel to top-seeded Endicott or host eighth-seeded University of New England on Tuesday. Salve Regina ends its season at 11-5-3.

Wentworth jumped out to a fast start, scoring just 2:11 into the contest. Senior Emmett Basaca (San Diego, Calif.) sent a ball from the right side to junior Nah Martins (Dartmouth, Mass.), who fired a shot inside the left post.

In the 15th minute, Salve Regina nearly tied it on a shot from senior Jared Warren (Georgetown, Mass.), however, sophomore Philip Chomicki (Dorchester, Mass.) got a hand on the attempt and tipped it over the crossbar.

The Seahawks tied the game at the 32:04 mark as sophomore Donald Igo (Needham, Mass.) received a pass from freshman Owen Stevenson (Middletown, Conn.) and put home a shot to the right side.

Both teams had opportunities to take the lead, however, it was Wentworth who would eventually capitalize as Basaca sent a ball from midfield to Gosselin who went in alone for the eventual game winner. With 35 seconds remaining, Warren had a bid as he headed a free kick towards the net where Chomicki made the save.

Chomicki made three saves for Wentworth while junior Michael Payan (Fort Lee, N.J.) made eight. Wentworth had a 23-13 shot advantage and a 3-1 edge on corner kicks.
