Hastings and Weygang stand out at Smith Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.-- Isabella Hastings and Anna Weygang lead the Seahawks women's cross country team to a fifth place finish at the Smith College Cross Country Invitational Saturday. 

Hastings, a freshman from Grantham, N.H. finished in 14th with a time of 20:21.0 and Weygang, a freshman from Farmington, Conn. came in 29th with a time of 21:03.9. In 2022 when the Seahawks last competed at the Smith Invitational the team finished fifth out of seven with an average time of 22:21. This year the Seahawks also saw a fifth place finish but bettered the average time to 21:30.

"Freshmen Isabella Hastings led the Seahawks to a fifth place finish," said head coach Kacie Gallo. "Anna Weygang was the second Seahawk finisher and Bre Shipman had a 30 second improvement on her time from this meet last year. Junior captain Avery Braccia ran a strong race and her time was a minute improvement from this meet the previous year. Senior Heather McKee rounded out the top five Seahawk runners. We're looking forward to racing at UMass Dartmouth next week." 

The Seahawks will next race on Saturday, Sept. 16 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational in Wenham, Mass.
