TOP FIVE FLASHBACK GALLERY

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University athletics resumes its summer series with a daily flashback to the top five moments of 2016-17 for each of its 19 varsity sports. Beginning with Memorial Day (Monday, May 29, 2017) and finishing with the final day of August, 95 moments (19 x 5) will be shared to relive the most exciting happenings of the most recent Seahawk season.

Senior Amy Irving (Bohemia, N.Y.) made her season debut at the Connecticut College Invitational at Harkness State Park. While the race would sadly prove to be her last healthy appearance as a Seahawk, it offered one last moment of brilliance from the school record holder at 6,000 meters.

True to form, Irving soared into the lead within the opening 400 meters of the race and battled with the lead pack through the opening mile. While she eventually faded from the top group, Irving would finish in the top 25 in a field that included three of the top 10 teams in New England and two ranked teams from outside the region. She crossed the finish line at 22:35.3.

"Amy Irving can race with anyone. While it is unfortunate that injuries often limited her racing appearances, Amy reminded us, one final time, how talented she is," said head coach Rob McGuinness. "She was a formidable competitor, even when she was injured. She would be nearly unstoppable at 100 percent."

Irving was recognized as the Commonwealth Coast Conference Runner of the Week for her performance in Connecticut. Her 6K school record of 22:17.70 – set in 2015 – still stands.
