CCC Runner of the Week: Victoria Varone

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has selected Salve Regina University senior Victoria Varone (Providence, R.I.) as its women's cross country runner of the week (September 12-18).

Runner of the Week - Varone was the top Commonwealth Coast Conference finisher in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday. She cruised to a new personal-best 5K time on the grass course at North Dartmouth, Mass., crossing the finish line at 18:48.47. Varone finished 15th in the field of 275 runners and led the Seahawks to a seventh-place finish among 37 teams. 

Salve Regina head coach Rob McGuinness expresses pride in his captain. "Victoria ran a smart race and held her own against high-quality competition at UMass-Dartmouth. I'm proud to see her improve her personal record at 5K, especially as a senior. It shows that she is still getting better, and I'm sure her best is still to come."

The Seahawks travel to Williamstown, Mass., to race in the Purple Valley Classic on Saturday.
