WENHAM, Mass. – Junior Aubrey Palmquist (Bristol, Conn.) and freshman Olivia Wilson (Bethel, Conn.) placed inside the top 10 to lead Salve Regina to second-place finish at the Pop Crowell Invitational at Gordon College.

Palmquist crossed the finish line at 20:36 to place fifth in the field of 149 runners, while Wilson finished eighth at 20:58. Sophomore Alannah O'Rourke (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) was the No. 3 runner for the Seahawks  at 21:07. Palmquist, Wilson and O'Rourke earned individual awards for placing inside the top 15 in the 5K trail race.

Junior Shannon Holden (Hingham, Mass.) and freshman Alexa Cipkas (Granby, Conn.) rounded out the scoring for the Seahawks, finishing at 21:20 and 21:27. Juniors Rachel Gedansky (Tolland, Conn.) and Jackie Ofria (Manchester, Conn.) were Salve Regina's No. 6 and No. 7 runners at 21:20 and 21:27.

"This is the type of race that puts a premium on placement over time, and it's one of the more technical trail courses on our schedule. As a result, our times don't fully reflect the quality of our effort today. The focus and the intensity were there," said head coach Rob McGuinness. "Aubrey, Olivia and Alexa turned in another consistent performance, and it was encouraging to see Alannah and Shannon join the top five for the first time this season."

The University of New England won the meet with a team score of 17. Salve Regina was second with 62 points, and Gordon was third with 104. The trail course on the Gordon campus, extended to a full 6,000 meters, is the site of the Commonwealth Coast Conference championship meet on Nov. 1, and six CCC teams were in the field on Saturday.
