MANCHESTER, Conn. - Salve Regina placed four runners in the top 10 and seven in the top 15 to win the Trinity Invitational at Wickham Park on Saturday. The victory marks back-to-back invitational titles for the Seahawks, a feat the women's cross country program has not achieved since 2011.

Freshmen Amy Irving (Bohemia, N.Y.) and Victoria Varone (Providence, R.I.) led the way for Salve Regina, finishing second and third in the field of 93 runners. Irving set the pace through the first half of the 4,000-meter trail race before being overtaken by Christie MacFarlane of Siena College, who won the race in 16:46. Irving finished at 16:55, while Varone ran 17:08.

Sophomore Aubrey Palmquist (Bristol, Conn.) finished fifth (17:20), senior Ema Waldschmidt (Verbank, N.Y.) was eighth (17:46) and freshman Andrea Ricci (Ashford, Conn.) was 11th (18:03) to round out the scoring five for the Seahawks. Senior Kayley Ryan (Portland, Conn.) finished in 18:11 and freshman Alannah O'Rourke (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) finished in 18:15 to hold the sixth and seventh spots for Salve Regina.

"I'm pleased to see the team running so well at this point in the season," said Coach Dave Kraszewski. "We've had great performances from our freshmen and our top returning runners, and there are easily 10 to 14 athletes vying for a spot in the top seven each week. That only makes us better."
