DeCicco, Murphy, Ramsey and Solheim named to CSC Academic All-District® Team

NEWPORT, R.I.-- (Tuesday, December 12, 2023) -- Salve Regina University's Siena DeCicco, Kate Murphy, Sydney Ramsey and Brighton Solheim earned sports on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Women's Volleyball Academic All-District® Team. To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District® honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA, be a sophomore or above, and a starter or significant reserve.

The only prior Seahawk to receive the honor was Julianne Barry in 2011. This marks the first year that the Seahawks have placed more than one athlete on an Academic All-District® team. 

The team finished out it's inaugural year in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) with a 12-15 overall record and 1-10 in the conference. The program posted its first conference win on Saturday, November 4, against the Emerson College Lions. Outside of the conference the Seahawks achieved key victories over Connecticut College, Johnson & Wales University, Simmons University and Western New England University among others. Salve Regina competed in 27 matches and totaled 1102 kills, 3549 total attacks, 210 service aces and 143 blocks.

Siena DeCicco (Jr., setter)
Major: Nursing

  • Appeared in 27 matches
  • Led the team in assists (816) and assists per set (8.08)
  • Recorded 239 total attempts
  • Contributed to 104.5 points in 2023

Kate Murphy (Gr., libero)
Major: Marketing (bachelor's)

  • Played in all 27 games and played in 102 of 103 sets
  • Reached the 1,000 career dig mark in 2023, earning a total of 350 for the season
  • Averaged 3.43 digs per set
  • Finished second on the team in receptions (472)

Sydney Ramsey (Sr., middle hitter)
Major: Education

  • Appeared in all 27 matches
  • Led the team in block assists (45) for a 59 block total
  • Finished fourth on the team in kills (113)
  • Contributed 369 total attempts

Brighton Solheim (Sr., outside hitter)
Major: Biochemistry

  • Appeared in all 27 matches
  • Led the team in total kills (335)
  • Led the team in receptions (495)
  • Finished at the top of the Seahawks' service ace category (56)
  • Contributed to 416.0 points in 2023
