Seahawks earn first NEWMAC win on senior day

NEWPORT, R.I.-- The Seahawks celebrated senior day by honoring the class of 2024. Sydney Ramsey, a middle hitter from Garden City, New York and Brighton Solheim, an outside hitter and opposite from Phoenix, Arizona are the program's two seniors. 

Salve Regina took the first set and Brighton Solheim got the day going, both delivering Emerson kills. A Seahawk service error resulted in 4-4 displaying on the board and the Lions were ahead until the game reached 14-14. This was the turning point for the set. Lauren Hoyle made a kill and the Seahawks went on a run, bringing the score from 16-16 to 20-16. 

The Lions came back in the second set after Rachel Dickerson immediately made a kill. The set was tight until the score reached 9-9 and few errors on the Salve Regina's part along with a kill from Parker Cummings gave Emerson the 13-9 advantage that they needed. Lead by Dickerson and Cummings the Lions went on a four-point run, making the score 22-15 in favor of Emerson. It was Dickerson who delivered the final kill of the set, making the score 25-18. 

Salve Regina used their energy from early in the game and did not falter during the third set and fourth sets. Even though the teams were neck and neck Lauren HoyleLydia Daskalos and Lucy Swanson all made critical kills at the right time for the Seahawks and swung the game back in favor of Salve Regina.

All-Time Series: The Seahawks went into the evening with a 3-4 record against the Lions and today's result brings that to 4-4.
