Coast Guard tops Salve Regina volleyball 3-0

NEWPORT, R.I.-- The Salve Regina women's volleyball team fell 3-0 in NEWMAC action to the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut Tuesday night.

After losing by 13 points in the first set, Salve Regina proved that they could remain in the game by improving their final two sets to a six and seven point deficit. The first set was initially tight, however the Bears managed to widen the gap to a 25-12 first set victory. In sets two and three the Seahawks made the Beavers work to stay ahead.  

INSIDE THE MATCHUP (25-12, 25-19, 25-18):
Final: Salve Regina 0, Coast Guard 3
Record: Salve Regina (10-11), Coast Guard (18-7)
All-Time Series: In 2019 Salve Regina lost 3-0 to Coast Guard, after tonight's contest the Seahawks are 8-0 against the Bears. 

NOTEWORTHY: 

  • Kate Murphy was a team leader in the digs category, with 14 in total, and also provided two assists during the contest. 
  • Lily Dobbins was second in the dig category with seven digs for the evening. 
  • Sydney Ramsey made three blocks and had one service ace. 
  • Siena DeCicco made a commanding 18 assists. 
  • Brighton Solheim had 11 kills, one ace and three blocks. 

COACH THOUGHTS: 

"Coast Guard Academy was able to generate more offense and kills than we were tonight, and we weren't able to establish the rhythm across the net that we like," remarked head coach Sebastian Noordzy. "We'll get back to the practice gym and prep for our match vs No. 13 Wesleyan on Friday." 

ON THE HORIZON: 

In an exciting Friday evening matchup, the Seahawks will host Wesleyan University on October 20 at 7 p.m. at the Rodgers Recreation Center.
