NEWPORT, R.I.-- 2022 NEWMAC women's volleyball champion, Massachusetts Institute of Technology trumped Salve Regina 3-0 on Tuesday. The Seahawks efforts were competitive yet not powerful enough to overcome the reigning champion and MIT's endurance got the better of them.

The first set was the strongest for the Seahawks, with no clear immediate leader for the match. Late in the first set the score was 22-22 after a kill by Sydney Ramsey and an attack error made by MIT. Two Engineer kills and an attack error for the Seahawks decided the first set 25-23 in favor of MIT. In the remaining two sets MIT gradually extended their lead, ending the match with 23-18 and 24-17 wins respectively.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Salve Regina 0, MIT 3
Record: Salve Regina (9-5), MIT (11-3)
All-Time Series: The Seahawks have contended with the Engineers twice in the past. The teams have a 1-1 record; Salve Regina won 3-2 in 2010 and lost 1-3 in 2021.

NOTEWORTHY:

COACH THOUGHTS:

"MIT is number 16 in the country for a reason," said head coach Sebastian Noordzy. "They're very good and they're a standard in the NEWMAC. We see what we need to strive for in order to achieve that standard of being high up in the NEWMAC standings. We are going to continue to find ways to attack against bigger opponents. They are a very good team with good size and good skill, but we need to find counter attacks to deal with teams with some size."

ON THE HORIZON:

On Saturday Sept. 30 catch the Seahawks in Worcester, Mass. against Clark University at 11 a.m. and against Western New England at 1 p.m.
