Seahawks fall to Wellesley in first NEWMAC contest

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Seahawk women's volleyball overcame an early two-set deficit to force a deciding fifth set, but fell to the Blue of Wellesley College (3-2) in the team's first NEWMAC contest of the season. The Seahawks lost 25-13 and 25-22 in the first two sets of the match, bringing high energy against a new conference rival. With that resolve, Salve Regina took the next two sets (25-21 and 25-16) and had match points in the fifth before the Blue inched ahead for a win, 16-14.

NOTEWORTHY:

TEAM THOUGHTS:

"Welcome to the NEWMAC!" said head coach Sebastian Noordzy. "We knew we were in for a new level of competition and sets 1 and 2 proved it. This group is competitive and we were able to find our groove and with some stand out performances from Lauren Hoyle and Avery Fitzgerald we were a point away from 1-0 in NEWMAC competition"

ON THE HORIZON:

The Seahawks return to action on Thursday Sept. 21 at home on the hardwood of the Rodgers Recreation Center. The Hawks of Roger Williams will be in town with the match starting at 6 p.m.
