Seahawks best Bridgewater State

NEWPORT, R.I.-- Seahawk women's volleyball outperformed Bridgewater State University 3-0 in a humid match Saturday. What was meant to be a tri-match was cut short after Salve Regina faced Bridgewater St. and Bridgewater St. took on Rivier University. The third match of the day, Salve Regina versus Rivier was canceled due to humidity in the Rodgers Recreation Center, causing unsafe and slippery playing conditions. 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Record: Salve Regina (4-1), Bridgewater St. (0-3)
All-Time Series: Going into today's matchup Salve Regina lead 6-0 with a 3-0 win in 2018 when the teams last met. The Seahawks record against Bridgewater St. is now 7-0. 

NOTEWORTHY: 

  • Salve Regina got an early lead with past success against Bridgewater fueling the team's success (25-15, 25-21, 25-5).
  • Lucy Swanson lead the Seahawks with nine kills, and Brighton Solheim was close behind with 6 kills. 
  • Jacey Cosciello delivered six aces against Bridgewater St. 
  • Salve earned 75 total points and only allowed Bridgewater St. 41 points.

TEAM THOUGHTS: 

"It was a hot and humid day in Rodgers but Salve volleyball was able to take care of business," said head coach Sebastian Noordzy. "We were very efficient as a team hitting .333, and we sided out at a comfortable rate. A nice win to add to our win column."

On Tuesday, Sept. 12 Salve Regina hosts Johnson & Wales at the Rodgers Center at 6 p.m.
