Seahawks take on the North West to begin 2022

Salve Regina began the 2022 season in the Pacific Northwest.

TACOMA, Wash. – The Salve Regina University women's volleyball team began their 2022 season with a cross-continental trip to participate in the Puget Sound Premiere tournament.

The trip represents the furthest Salve Regina women's volleyball has ever traveled for competition. The team spent five nights in the Seattle area enjoying the location while competing against some tough competition on the court.

"Our trip to Tacoma was awesome," said head coach Sebastian Noordzy. "It's the furthest away from Newport we've ever been and that allowed us to play teams the school rarely gets to see."

Salve Regina went 1-3 in its competition at the tournament, falling 3-0 and 3-1 to Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound respectively in Friday's competition. On Saturday the Seahawks held on for a thrilling five-set victory over Benedictine (Ill.) before dropping their final match to Pacific Lutheran.

"We started off the weekend slow against a Pacific Lutheran team that is getting votes in National Ranking Polls," said Noordzy, "but we continued to progress through into our win against Benedictine and a much improved second time against PLU."

Between matches the Seahawks took in the sights of the Pacific Northwest including the Space Needle, Mount Rainier, and Pikes Place Market."

"It was really fun to see the team bond and form stronger relationships with each other off the court," said Noordzy. "We were also able to see some of the beautiful sites of the Pacific Northwest, including the Space Needle, Mount Rainier, and Pikes Place Market. I believe it really translated to our on-the-court play for our last few matches of the tournament and for future matches we'll have this season!"

Salve Regina (1-3) returns home to Newport and will host Rochester Institute of Technology on Friday, September 9, at 5 p.m., in the Seahawks home opener.
