Summary
NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University women's volleyball team swept visiting Gordon College 3-0 (30-28, 25-22, 25-16) in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Tuesday evening.

Series and Streaks
The Seahawks improve to 11-9 versus the Scots and have won three in a row in the all-time series.

Three Stars of the Match

  1. Salve Regina senior Nicole Karabaich (Greenlawn, N.Y.) paced the Seahawks scoring with 13 kills, a block, and an ace.
  2. Gordon junior Valerie Nilan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) led the Scots scoring with 11 kills, an ace, and match-high five solo blocks.
  3. Salve Regina junior Katelyn O'Brien (Bridgeport, Pa.) posted the only double-double of the match with 30 assists and a team-high 13 digs.

Turning Point
A wild and tightly contested first set saw the Scots continue to fend off match-point until a 2-0 spurt gave them a 28-27 advantage. However, three straight Scots errors gave Salve Regina a momentum swinging first set victory 30-28. The Scots led 9-8 early in the second set, but a 7-1 run capped by a kill from Nicole Karabaich gave the Seahawks the lead back for the final time as Gordon would never lead again in the match. Salve Regina would edge the Scots 25-22 in the second and lead wire to wire in the third to complete the sweep.

Quick Hits

  • Kate Howe (Belfast, N.Y.) had a match-high 34 assists for the Scots while teammate Haley Robinson (San Diego, Calif.) had a match-high 20 digs patrolling the backline.
  • Jordan Shaduk (Baltimore, Md.) also posted double digit kills (10) for the Scots.
  • Rookie outside hitter Brighton Solheim (Phoenix, Ariz.) posted her sixth double-digit kill effort knocking in 10 for the Seahawks.

Quoteables
"That match was just two teams ready to battle it out. We beat them in three but it wasn't an easy three-setter and it could've easily gone five. We were able to serve well and use those out of system opportunities to turn them into points on our end. Gordon is a top team in our conference so for us to beat them is big in the playoff picture. Big conference win for the Seahawks" - head coach Sebastian Noordzy.
