Summary
The Salve Regina University women's volleyball team swept Western New England University 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-23) in the quarterfinal round of the  Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) tournament Tuesday evening.

Series and Streaks
The Seahawks have won three in a row in the series but still trail to the Golden Bears 9-7 all-time.

Three Stars of the Match

  1. Salve Regina freshman Nicole Karabaich (Greenlawn, N.Y.) had a match-high 14 kills.
  2. Salve Regina senior Erin Proctor (Canton, Mass.) had match-highs in assists (31) and service aces (4).
  3. Salve Regina senior Megan Parham (Tulsa, Okla.) had a match-high 20 digs.

Key Stat
The Seahawks closed out each set strong with runs of 6-3, 6-1 and 6-1 respectively, and trailed in the second and third sets before making those runs.

Turning Point
The Golden Bears seemingly had the Seahawks on the ropes late in both the second in third sets. In the second set a service ace from Jenna Ferguson (Ellington, Conn.) gave the visitors are 22-19 lead, but the Seahawks answered with a 6-1 run to take the set and a 2-0 lead. After losing an early 5-1 lead in the third, the Golden Bears battled back late to take a 22-20. A service error gave a point back to the Seahawks who then got a kill from Megan Parham on a ball that hung on the net before falling onto the Golden Bear side of the court, and two kills from Karabaich the give the Seahawks match-point, 24-22. A Seahawks attacking error kept the Golden Bears alive, but on the next volley Nicole Karabaich buried her 14th kill of the night to complete the sweep and send the Seahawks to the semifinals.

  • Kierah Parker (Middletown, Conn.) had a match-high 2.5 blocks for the Golden Bears.
  • Jenna McCormack (Nashua, N.H.) dished out 29 assists for the visitors.
  • The Golden Bears had three players in double-digit digs; Caleigh McDermott (Oakdale, N.Y.) grabbed 13, while McCormack and Ferguson collected 11 and 10 digs respectively.
