BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Volleyball team improved their winning streak to 16 as they defeated the Salve Regina Seahawks 3-2 Wednesday night at the Roger Williams Recreational Center.

The Sehawks took the opening set 25-20, before the Hawks battled back to win the next two by the scores 25-23 and 25-16. In the fourth set, with Roger Williams set to win, the Seahawks battled back from 24-17 with nine straight points to win the set 26-24 and tie the match at two. In the fifth set, the Hawks jumped out to a 13-3 lead before holding on for a 15-6 victory.

Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.) led the Seahawks with 15 kills and five block assists. Clare Adams (New Concord, Ohio) added 11 kills and 20 digs, with Diana Tauro (Melrose, Mass.) leading the team with 21 digs. Taylor Violet (Tiverton, R.I.) finished with 34 assists, 20 digs, and four aces.

Torpey led the Hawks with 22 digs and 16 kills. Gonzalez-Yanez added ten digs and two aces, while classmate Sopchak had five kills and two block assists. Kelsee Loche (Millis, Mass.) contributed with a team-high 23 digs, and Emily Lebowitz (Coventry, Conn.) led the team in helpers with a season-high 49 assists.

Roger Williams finishes the regular season Saturday afternoon with a 3:00 p.m. game at the University of New England. Salve Regina wraps up their season against Endicott on Saturday (1 p.m.) when they celebrate Senior Day at the Rodgers Recreation Center.
