Seahawks remain unbeaten in CCC with 3-1 win over UNE

NEWPORT, R.I. - Senior Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.) recorded 10 kills and seven blocks to help lead the Salve Regina University women's volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over the University of New England during a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match up at the Rodgers Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Seahawks improve to 8-6 overall and remain undefeated during conference play with a perfect 4-0 record. The loss drops the Nor'easters to 4-10 on the season, including a 1-3 conference mark.
 
The Seahawks took the opening set by a score of 25-21 before the Nor'easters came storming back to grab a 25-16 win in the second set. The Seahawks then earned a pair of hard fought wins in sets three and four by scores of 25-23 and 25-22.
 
Barry's seven blocks were a team-high, while her 10 kills tied for the top spot on the team. Freshman Taylor Violet (Tiverton, R.I.) also played well dishing out 31 assists while adding eight digs in the win. Junior Megan Clancy (Chelmsford, Mass.) led all players with 25 digs on the day, while sophomore Clare Adams (New Concord, Ohio) had a match-best five aces to go along with seven kills.
 
The Nor'easters were paced by junior Paige Curran (Chelmsford, Mass.) who led all players with 17 kills and seven blocks, while sophomore Maria Kuehl (Middletown, N.H.) compiled 20 digs to go along with a match-high 39 assists in the loss. Sophomore Angie Brunette also had a solid performance, recording 11 kills and four blocks on the afternoon.
 
The Nor'easters will return to the court on Tuesday when they host Gordon at 7 p.m., while the Seahawks begin a four-match road trip by facing Eastern Nazarene at the same date and time.
