WESTFIELD, Mass. (Saturday, April 13, 2024) -- Seahawk women's track and field traveled to the Jerry Gravel Invitational on Saturday, and freshman Anna Weygang set a new school record in the women's 5000-meter run. The event was hosted by the Westfield State University Owls.

"We had many strong performances at the Jerry Gravel Classic in Westfield, Massachusetts," said head coach Andrew Furst."

Leading the charge was Anna Weygang in the women's 5000-meter run setting a new school record with a time of 18:36.83. Right behind her in that same race was Isabella Hastings who took second with a time of 18:40.71, which was 34 seconds faster than the next closest competitor.

Other top performances included Olivia Tacconi who ran 12.95 in the women's 100-meter dash which placed her third in the event. Avery Braccia also came away with a third-place finish on the back of a personal best effort in the women's 800-meter run. There was also scoring found in the throws, where Victoria Bird place fifth in the javelin with a throw of 27.23 meters.

"Today was a huge success for our program," said coach Furst. "Not only was a new standard set for the 5000-meter run but the ladies all came together throughout the day and showed great support for every event. The team came away with 14 personal best performances on the day and many athletes were able to push themselves to that next gear in part due to the cheering of their teammates. I am very proud of how our team handled business today. We will now set our sights on the Trinity Invitational and will look to build on this great performance."

The Trinity Invitational will be hosted by Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut on Saturday, April 20.
