Seahawks spring to action at Regis Spring Classic

WESTON, Mass. (Monday, April 8, 2024) -- Seahawk women's track and field competed at their third meet of the spring 2024 season and came away with several first-place finishes. 

In the women's 1500-meter run, the first-year pairing of Anna Weygang (Farmington, Conn.) and Isabella Hastings (Grantham, N.H.) took first and second with times of 4:58.23 and 5:00.13 respectively. 

In the women's 800-meter run, junior Avery Braccia (Bristol, Conn.) took first with a personal best of 2:29.87 while, first-year, Alannah Burke (Westborough, Mass.) finished in second with a time of 2:40.67.

Other notable point scorers were sophomore Kelsey Chiasson (Oakdale, Conn.) finishing fourth in the women's shot put, sophomore Victoria Bird (West Warwick, R.I.) finishing fifth in the women's javelin, and first-year sprinter Olivia Tacconi (Waldwick, N.J.) finishing fifth and sixth in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash.

"We are thankful to Regis College for their willingness to host us following the unexpected cancelation of the Jim Sheehan Invitational due to weather," said head coach Andrew Furst. "The ladies knew how lucky we were to find a meet last minute and they made sure to execute."

Overall, the team finished tied for fifth with Worcester State University with 45 points. The Seahawks are now setting their sights on the Jerry Gravel Classic which will be held on Saturday, April 13, at Westfield State University.
