Weygang tops the field at Corsair Classic

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. (Saturday, March 30, 2024) --Seahawk women's track and field had a successful day at the Corsair Classic meet, hosted by UMass Dartmouth in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts. 

Freshman Anna Weygang (Farmington, Conn.) won the women's 5000 meter run with a time of 18:53.17. Weygang crossed the line 45 seconds before the second-place runner came in. Sophomore Kelsey Chiasson (Oakdale, Conn.) claimed 7th place in the women's shot put with a throw of 10.02 meters.

Salve Regina saw several personal best performances including Olivia McHugh's (Manchester, Conn.) time of 14.37 in the women's 100 meter dash and 30.25 in the 200 meter dash. Megan Curran (Framingham, Mass.) achieved a personal record in the women's javelin with a 20.44 meter throw.

Overall, the Seahawks finished in 11th place. Several other NEWMAC programs competed at the event including first place Worcester Polytechnic Institute and second place Springfield College

"The sun was out for us this week and the ladies took full advantage of the opportunity," said head coach Andrew Furst. "I am excited about the performances that I saw today and look forward to seeing the ladies continue to compete this year."
