NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University women's track and field begins its outdoor spring competition on April 2 at the Corsair Classic hosted by UMass Dartmouth.

Several student-athletes - including Mirasia Cassese (Newport, R.I.), Alex Demeo (Burlington, Mass.), Jessica Graham (Lowell, Mass.), and Jackie Ofria (Manchester, Conn.) - recently competed in the indoor invitational hosted by Wesleyan University at the Bacon Field House (see photos by Jen McGuinness).

Five weekends in April include a return to Middletown, Conn., for the Cardinals' outdoor invitational at Wesleyan. On April 30, the Seahawks compete in the Commonealth Coast Conference (CCC) Invitational held for the second-straight year at Portsmouth (R.I.) High School, the nearest "home" event for Salve Regina.

Salve Regina head coach Matthew Hird enters his 11th season with a roster of 38 athletes. During Hird's tenure, two thirds of the team records have been broken. Hird, who currently serves as the secretary/treasurer for the New England Women's Division III Cross Country and Track & Field Association, arrived in Newport after serving as head coach of the women's cross country and track and field programs at Rhode Island College. He is a member of the Rhode Island High School Coaches Hall of Fame.
