WENHAM, Mass. - Five Salve Regina track and field athletes garnered first place finishes at the Commonwealth Coast Conference track and field invitational held at Gordon College. Roger Williams University placed first in the women's meet with 214 points. Salve Regina recorded 80 points for second while Gordon placed third with 65.

Rebecca Longvall (Fr., Boylston, Mass.) and Kayley Ryan (So., Portland, Conn.) led the way, both recording personal bests. Ryan won the 3000m steeplechase in a meet record time of 12:26.16. The old record was held by Megan Hoffsis of Gordon in 12:39.48.

Longvall ended the meet with a winning javelin throw of 120'1. In between these two efforts several other Seahawks recorded victories. Victoria Newcomb (Fr., Hanson, Mass.) claimed top honors in the discus with a heave of 94'9 while Alexa Bracco (So., Hauppage, N.Y.) took the victory in the pole vault with a leap of 8'2.

Rounding out the list of winners was Ema Waldschmidt (So., Verbank, N.Y.) who dominated the field in the 5000m with a time of 20:16.46, just 10 seconds off her personal best.

Other Seahawks found the scoring column. Second place finished were recorded by Kelsey Jacobsen (Sr., Colonie, N.Y.) in the 100m with a 13.59, Newcomb in the shot put with a heave of 27'7 ¼, and MaryElizabeth Pfund (Fr., Tenafly, N.J.) in the 100m hurdles, crossing the line in 16.87. Pfund missed qualifying for the Division III New England championships by seven hundredths of a second.

Ryan claimed third place in the 400m hurdles in 75.46. Danielle Schioppo (Jr., North Haven, Conn.) also ran the 3000m steeplechase, finishing third in a personal record time of 13:26.50.

Jacobsen also scorched the 200m, finishing fourth in a collegiate personal record time of 28.39. Kelsey Knight (Fr., Amherst, N.H.) battling illness had a difficult time with the 100m hurdles, but still managed a fourth in 19.08. Newcomb (hammer) and Waldschmidt (1500m) also placed fifth in events with marks of 74'1 and 5:24.73 respectively. Rounding out the scoring was a sixth place effort from Schioppo in the 800m in 2:39.56.

Eight Seahawks contributed to the scoring with Newcomb taking top honors with 14 points.

Coach Matt Hird was very pleased with the results. "We came into the meet under strength but everyone responded terrifically. Not only did we record nine seasonal bests, but broke personal and meet records as well. Before the meet we emphasized our last regular meet of the season should be a fun one where athletes should just let it out and have something to take away with them for the summer. And success wasn't just found with the scorers. For instance, Julianne Bohman (Jr., West Hartford, Conn.) didn't score, but ran the races of her life, recording personal bests in the 100 and 200m. All-in-all it was a great day which everyone enjoyed."

The Seahawks are next in action next Saturday at MIT at the New England Division III Championships where Longvall and Ryan will compete in their specialties and the 4x100m relay team will chase the school record.
