Thibault, Gallo named assistant coaches

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University women's track and field head coach Matthew Hird welcomes two new assistant coaches, Andre Thibeault and Kacie Gallo, to the program for the 2010 season.

Thibeault has previously served as an assistant men's and women's track and field coach at his alma mater, The College of Holy Cross, and Tantasqua Regional High School. He has also worked at the Central Massachusetts Track and Field Camp, which takes place at The College of Holy Cross.

"Andre Thibeault is a great addition to our staff. Not only is he a good teacher, but he has been coached by some of the best throws coaches in New England," said Hird. "'A.J' is super enthusiastic, and will meet athletes for practice whenever their classes allow. In watching A.J., it is obvious that he really enjoys what he is doing and our throwers are profiting from his combination of teaching expertise, patience, and positive nature."

While a collegiate student-athlete, Thibeault was a team captain and field MVP for the Crusaders track and field team. As a high school athlete, he competed at the High School National Meet in the 25 lb. weight throw event, and was also a member of the football and baseball programs.

"I am really excited to join the Salve Regina track and field coaching staff and work with the throwers. I am looking forward to a fun and successful season," said Thibeault.

Gallo, a 2008 graduate of Salve Regina, currently serves as the head coach for both the boys cross country and girls indoor track team at Rogers High School in Newport. She also works as an assistant coach for the boys outdoor track team and as an assistant track & field coach at Rodgers. Gallo holds a Bachelor of Science as a double major in Elementary Education and Special Education. "I am very excited to have the opportunity to be back at Salve coaching track and field," said Gallo. "I hope to help the student-athletes grow by not only improving in their specific events, but also to develop the skills and qualities that will help them make important contributions after leaving Salve. I want them to have a positive and memorable experience like the one I had when I ran track at Salve."

While at Salve Regina, Gallo was a two-sport athlete, competing in both women's soccer and track & field. She served as President of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.) from 2006-08, received the Meghan Strathman Award in 2007, and was named The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Woman of the Year in 2008.

"Kacie is no stranger to Salve Regina. As a multi-sport athlete, Kacie consistently demonstrated her athleticism and leadership ability over her four years," said Hird. "Our sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers enjoy her combination of enthusiasm, work ethic, enjoyment, and planning. We look forward to making an impact in conference competition under her leadership."

The Seahawks begin the 2010 season with a meet at Northeastern University on March 20. Competition is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
