Youth and experience combine for Seahawk victory over Anchorwomen

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Salve Regina University women's tennis ended a nine-match skid against the Anchorwomen of Rhode Island College with 6-3 decision on the RIC Tennis Center in Providence. Five of the six singles matches were decided in three sets with Salve Regina winning three of those going the distance along with a straight-set triumph for Sailor Nordstrom (New Bedford, Mass.) at first singles. The Seahawks took two of the three doubles points as newcomers Madigan Murphy (York, Maine)/Stephanie Davis (Kinnelon, N.J.) joined veterans Alexa Stevens (Portsmouth, N.H.)/Elena Murdock (Westerly, R.I.) in the win column.

Pulling out three-set singles victories for the Seahawks were -- Stevens at second, Davis at third, and Murphy at fifth.

Salve Regina plays at Salem State on Thursday, September 7, in the first-ever meeting between the Seahawks and Vikings in women's tennis. Salve Regina now competes as a first-year member of the NEWMAC - New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference.
