Golden Bears edge Seahawks

NEWPORT, R.I. (September 28, 2019) -- Salve Regina University women's tennis split six singles matches with visiting Western New England University, after the Golden Bears took a 2-1 advantage with doubles, and the Commonwealth Coast Conference battle went to Western New England, 5-4.

Rachel Bauer picked up two wins for the Golden Bears, including an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles with Jessica Cote. Salve Regina (1-5, 1-4 CCC) earned its doubles point at No. 3 with senior Priscilla Gaspard joining with sophomore Makenzie Sadler for a come-from-behind 8-6 final at No. 3 doubles.

The Seahawks were winners at first, third, and fifth singles as Lauren Harvey and Casey Farrell took their decisions in straight sets; Annemarie Haas rallied to win a pair of tiebreaks including the third set in a super tiebreak for the final point at No. 5 singles. Junior Nina Branch battled at No. 6 singles in three sets with Sydney Lewis taking the third.

With the win, Western New England (4-3, 2-3 CCC) takes an 8-7 lead in the all-time series with Salve Regina. The Golden Bears now have a 6-2 mark in Newport against the Seahawks.
