Women's Tennis #4 - Salve Regina doubles up Regis (April 6, 2015)

NEWPORT, R.I. - Playing for the first time in women's tennis since Regis College departed theCommonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) after the 2010-11 season, Salve Regina University ran its all-time record versus the Pride to 22-0 with a 6-3 victory at home today.

The Seahawks took two of three doubles matches with Emma Gruber (New Canaan, Conn.) and Hayley Maxwell (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) clearing an 8-3 victory at first doubles. Seniors Elizabeth DiFilippo (West Chester, Pa.) and Meg Olson (Colchester, Vt.) completed a win at second doubles by the same score.

Regis (13-4) got on the board with a win at third doubles from Amy DiPace (Cambridge, Mass.) and Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.). Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.) evened the score with her straight-set victory over DiFilippo at second singles.

Julie Grant (Warwick, R.I.) put the Seahawks back on top with her win at sixth singles before Emily Morganbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) got the straight-set win at third singles.

Salve Regina (5-8) won the remaining singles matches, all close, with Courtney Bailey (No. Dartmouth, Mass.) prevailing at fourth singles with a second-set tiebreak. Gruber clinched the win with her 7-5,7-5 score at first singles while Cristina Marsocci (No. Scituate, R.I.) finished the final match with a 7-4 triumph in her third-set tiebreak.
