Seahawks score second straight sweep

PAXTON, Mass.- The Salve Regina University women's tennis team defeated Anna Maria College, 9-0, during a The Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup at Paxton Sports Centre on Wednesday evening. The win improves the Seahawks to a perfect 4-0 (4-0 TCCC) on the year, while the AMCATS drop to 0-4 (0-4 TCCC).

 

The Seahawks began the day by taking all three doubles matches without dropping a single game. Freshmen Elizabeth Liguori (Westerly, R.I) and Annie Mallin (Fairfield, Conn.) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-0 win from the No. 3 slot. Senior Valerie Leso (West Warwick, R.I.) teamed-up with junior Nichol Stevens (Chester, Conn.) for an 8-0 victory in No. 1 doubles, while senior Elise Jones (Pittsfield, Mass.) and freshman Jessica Moore (Middletown, R.I.) combined to take their No. 2 doubles match by the same score.

 

Salve Regina continued to roll in singles competition, paced by flawless 6-0, 6-0 victories from senior Erin Phillips (Morristown, N.J.), senior Valerie Leso, sophomore Karlee Walther (Natick, Mass.), and senior Elise Jones. Freshman Ana Gwozdz (Taunton, Mass.) added a 6-1, 6-4 win during No. 2 singles play, while freshman Danielle Derrico (Pomfret Center, Conn.) completed the day with a 6-1, 6-0 victory of her own.

 

The Seahawks will put their unblemished record on the line when they host Wentworth on Saturday, while the AMCATS will look to bounce back on Thursday when they travel to take on Becker College.
