Seahawks swept by Chargers

HANOVER, N.H. - One day after sweeping TCCC foe Gordon College, Salve Regina University women's tennis got swept by Colby-Sawyer College as the teams competed at the Alexis Boss Tennis Center on the Dartmouth College campus.

"Just as Gordon competed hard against us, we competed hard against the Chargers with no wins to show for it," said Seahawk head coach Ed Habershaw. "We know the effort we put out there, and we know the quality of tennis we brought to each match. We'll hold our heads high while tipping our caps in congratulations to Colby-Sawyer."

Juniors Erin Phillips [Morristown, N.J.] and Valerie Leso [West Warwick, R.I.] came the closest to pushing matches the distance at first and fourth singles, respectively. Leso led 4-3 in each set, but freshman Claire Toffey denied the Seahawk her third straight victory.

Phillips got behind an early break in her second set and senior Mary Francis made it hold up to complete the overall sweep.

Salve Regina (3-5; 3-4 TCCC) travels to Curry College on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.)
