Wiejkus wakes up with early goal in 1-1 draw for Seahawk women's soccer

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University women's soccer got on the board early with a goal from Sara Wiejkus (Marshfield, Mass.) in the game's second minute before Curry College scored the equalizer in the 33rd minute, and the teams went scoreless in the second half for a 1-1 draw on opening day at Reynolds Field in Newport, Rhode Island, on Friday afternoon.

All-Time Series: Salve Regina has a 16-18-3 mark in the all-time series with their former fellow conference member. The first meeting came in 1986 while the three draws in the series have all come since 2017.

  • Salve Regina doubled the shot output of the visitors, 16 to 8.
  • The Seahawks attempted seven corner kicks in the first half and finished with a 10-7 edge over the Colonels.
  • The two teams tied in the regular season a year ago before the Conlonels took a 4-2 decision in quarterfinal action of the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
