NEWPORT, R.I. - Junior back Gabriella Boivin (Tolland, Conn.) scored her first career goal in the 88th minute to deliver the Salve Regina University women's soccer team a thrilling 2-1 victory over visiting Emmanuel College in non-conference action to begin the 2021 season.

Series and Streaks
The Seahawks snap a two-game losing streak to the Saints and even the all-time series at 2-2.

Three Stars of the Game

  1. Salve Regina junior Gabriella Boivin connected on a long distance shot in the 88th minute to break a 1-1 tie.
  2. Salve Regina junior Georgia Drake (Plymouth, Mass.) made seven saves in her first career start to improve to 1-0.
  3. Emmanuel freshman Kaelyn Briscoe (Walpole, Mass.) scored her first career goal in the 42nd to even the score 1-1.

Turning Point
Boivin received a short pass on a give-and-go with Isabel Valerio (Proctor, Vt.) wide on the right side and let a shot fly from near the touchline that sailed over the outreached arms of the Saints netminder and into the net for the go-ahead goal in the 88th minute. Quote
"It was an incredibly fun game to watch.  We had no idea what to expect from Emmanuel, but they presented us with a high energy match up — great for a season opener.  I was most pleased with our ability to match Emmanuel's intensity while finding our own rhythm and making the most of our opportunities on net.  It was invigorating after almost 2 years without competition — a very inspiring return!" - head coach Jane Walsh.

Next Up
