BOSTON, Mass. – The Salve Regina University women's soccer team netted a goal in each half to outlast Wentworth Institute of Technology, 2-1, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Wednesday evening at Sweeney Field.

Despite Wentworth holding a narrow 7-6 advantage in shots in the first half, the Seahawks were first to strike in the ninth minute, as senior Delaney Maxell (Lincoln, R.I.) redirected a shot that dinged the crossbar from Mia Papiro's (Glen Head, N.Y.) original shot. Salve Regina senior netminder Carla Pala (Milford, Conn.) stopped all four shots on net in the first 45 minutes from Wentworth, including one from senior Madyson Reno (Superior, Colo.) in the 30th minute.

Reno, however, connected for the Leopards in the second half to deadlock the score 1-1. Reno beat the Salve Regina back line 1v1, and finished in the left netting, scoring her second goal of the season.

Salve Regina then put the pressure on and took three shots off target before the go-ahead goal from senior Abby McMackin (Walpole, Mass.) in the 77th minute. Sophomore Carah Cote (Adams, Mass.) set up the play with a pass from the top of the box, finding McMackin for the 2-1 lead. The Seahawks tried for a goal of insurance twice more before the end of regulation, but senior keeper Christie Fleming (Braintree, Mass.) turned away both shots.

Pala made six stops in net for the Seahawks, while Fleming made seven saves in the setback.
