BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University women's soccer team downed its in-state rival Salve Regina University with a 4-1 win over the Seahawks Saturday afternoon.

The game was part of the team's "Hawks For A Cure" initiative; in today's case, breast cancer awareness. During the game, family members sold baked goods, bracelets and raffle baskets, in addition to holding a 50/50 raffle, with proceeds benefitting the Roger Williams Cancer Center.

Carla Salcedo (Mexico City, Mexico) put the Hawks up 1-0 in the first half, getting help from Jenna Hart (Cheshire, Conn.) in the 38th minute. Hart fed Salcedo a pass at the top of the penalty area, giving her a chance on net. Seahawk keeper Emily Cuellar (Providence, R.I.) got a hand on the ball, but not enough as the ball bounced off her hand and rolled towards the net. She was unable to clear the ball in time before it crossed the line, as the Hawks notched the first score of the game.

Salcedo added one more goal in the closing seconds of the first half, taking a pass from Julie Loewenstein (Malta, N.Y.) with 15 seconds left in the period. She fired a long deep shot into the left corner of the net to give RWU a 2-0 lead going into the break.

Shortly into the second half, the Hawks added one more score. RWU's leading scorer Mariah Kaiser (Portsmouth, R.I.) put away her tenth goal of the season off of a feed by Haley Carignan (Scarborough, Maine). Kaiser scored in similar fashion to the prior RWU goal, bending a long shot into the corner of the net.

Missy Andrade (Glastonbury, Conn.) picked up her first goal of the year in the 74th minute. After a Seahawk foul, Andrade stepped up from about 30 yards out from the left side of the goal and fired a shot above the wall and over the goalie's outstretched hands to give RWU a commanding 4-0 lead.

Salve Regina denied the Hawks' bid for a shutout in the 84th minute. Miscommunication on Roger Williams' end between the keeper and the defense led to a loose ball in the box. The Seahawks' Francesa Galeazzi (Lynn, Mass.) took advantage and knocked in the shot on the empty net.

Hawk keeper Sydney Martin (Scarborough, Maine) earned the win for the Hawks, making two saves in 59:03 of action. Alexis Wright (Bennington, Vt.) finished the remainder in net, making one save.

Cuellar had four stops for Salve Regina in 71:14 of action, while Angelina Saporito (Bristol, Conn.) allowed one goal with three saves in the final 18:42.

Roger Williams (10-2-3, 3-0-2 CCC) hosts UMass-Dartmouth on Wednesday, while Salve Regina (3-9-0, 1-4-0 CCC).
