NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University women's soccer scored twice in the first 12 minutes, added two second-half goals, and defeated visiting Wesleyan University, 4-0, in non-league action at Reynolds Field in Newport.

Junior Lauren Bulk (Portsmouth, R.I.) triggered her second goal of the season at 4:34 with an assist from sophomore Melissa Figueiredo (East Bridgewater, Mass.). It was quickly 2-0 when sophomore midfielder Anna Shultz (Higganum, Conn.) scored from the left side, her second tally of the season as well.

Seahawk freshman netminder Carly Montgomery (Malverne, N.Y.) denied all three shots she face in the first. Her junior counterpart for the Cardinals, Hannah Jellinek (Newton, Mass.), also stopped three in the first half.

Jellinek was lifted for sophomore defender Kaylie Williams (Danville, Calif.) 11 minutes into the second half after two kicks from Seahawk senior forward Erin McCullough (Ludlow, Mass.) eluded Jellinek.

McCullough's first strike of the second half was set up by Bulk's penetration on the left side before dumping a pass back to McCullough. The senior forward booted the ball with her right foot to hook the shot past Jellinek. McCullough's second goal of the game, and her team-leading fifth of the season, was soley on her individual effort. Squeezing through two Wesleyan defenders, McCullough unleashed a shot with her left foot that was initially stopped by Jellinek, but the sophomore keeper could not contain the force as it trickled over the goal line behind her.

Montgomery finished with seven saves in her first collegiate victory. Wesleyan outshot Salve Regina, 22-to-11.

The four goals for Salve Regina (1-5-1) nearly doubled the team's total from the previous six games (five) while giving the Seahawks eight goals in their last three contests.

"We have made an effort to improve our offense," said first-year Seahawk head coach Jessica DePolito. "We're attacking the goal more and playing less defensively. It feels great to get our first win; I'm happy for the players - they deserve it."

Salve Regina returns to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play when it travels to Gordon College on Saturday (noon); Wesleyan (0-2-1) has its second NESCAC game of the season when it hosts Bates College this weekend.
