Seahawks soar on senior night

NEWPORT, R.I.--Saturday, Sept. 30 saw seven different Seahawks score en route to a 52-29 victory over conference opponent Plymouth State (1-1). Salve Regina (1-0) won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball in the first half to open up the senior night festivities. However, Plymouth State struck first going up 7-0 after three minutes.

Much like last week, the Seahawks responded with two tries in quick succession by senior Sarah Holcomb (Newtown, Conn.) and Junior Jazly Alcantara (Port Chester, N.Y.). After 3 tries from Plymouth State in quick succession at the 20, 22, and 34 minute mark, the Seahawks were in need of a response. Trailing 22-12, Salve responded with six tries of their own to take a 52-22 lead with Senior Alison Houle (Seekonk, Mass.) converting on five of the six. The six tries were scored by graduate student Dakota Benson (Stratford, Conn.), junior Haylee Morrison (Bellingham, Mass.), sophomore Molly Baptist (Bourne, Mass.), two from freshman Evelyn Groeneweg (Houston, Texas), and finished with a try by senior Sam Bertrand (Warwick, R.I.) to cap the evening.

Houle paced the Seahawks with 12 points. These were the first career tries of their college careers for Baptist and Groeneweg.

The Seahawks are back in action Saturday, Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. at Fort Adams against UMass Dartmouth.
