Pride push past Seahawks, 26-4

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (Saturday, March 23, 2024)-- Salve Regina women's lacrosse was surpassed by the Springfield College Pride 26-4 in the Seahawks' second NEWMAC conference game of the season on Saturday. 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Springfield 26, Salve Regina 4
Records: Salve Regina (7-2, 1-1 NEWMAC), Springfield (6-2, 2-0 NEWMAC)
Last matchup: This is the first ever meeting of the Pride and the Seahawks. 

BREAKDOWN: 

Within the first 2:30 of the day the Pride scored four times, taking control of the encounter. Edie Threshie got the Seahawks on the board still trailing the Pride 4-1 with a free position shot just under five minutes into the first quarter action. The Pride remained unfazed, netting the next six goals in the period. After one quarter it was already 10-1 with Springfield on top. Samantha Moleti (from Edie Threshie) got the second quarter going, but it just wasn't enough to put a stop to the Pride's early success. 

Cameron Baston (from Samantha Moleti) and Edie Threshie (from Kayli Garcia) came out of the half with two consecutive Seahawk successes, determined to put a dent in Springfield's sizable 16-2 advantage. However, Springfield remained steadfast in the final two quarters, posting 10 goals following Salve Regina's two for a 26-4 final Score. The Pride broke their single game team record with 15 different athletes accounting for their 26 total goals scored.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • The Pride won 25 to the Seahawks six draw controls. 
  • Grace Haesche made 13 saves.
  • Pride goalie Colleen Browne made five saves. 
  • The Seahawks picked up 17 ground balls. 

ON THE HORIZON: 

The United Stated Coast Guard Academy will travel to Gaudet Field for a 7 p.m. NEWMAC duel on Wednesday, March 27.
