Seahawks scorch Blazers, 18-1

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (Saturday, February 24, 2024)-- Women's lacrosse moves to 2-0 in 2024 after only allowing one Elms College goal in an 18-1 encounter. 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Records: Salve Regina (2-0, 0-0 NEWMAC), Elms (0-1, 0-0 GNAC)
Last matchup: The Seahawks have not contended with the Blazers in recent history. 

BREAKDOWN: 

It only took Salve Regina two minutes to surge ahead. Edie Threshie scored the first goal of the day, followed by Samantha Moleti and Cameron Baston, with free position shots. Going into the second period it was already a 6-0 game. Delia Tarasco (from Delia Braillard) opened up the second quarter with a goal, extending Salve Regina's lead to 7-0. Elms received a yellow card with 10:21 remaining in the first half and Blazers' Jackie Cronin snuck in for a goal, the only one the team would record across the board. 

It was already a 12-1 game going into halftime. Stella McCormack (from Edie Threshie) was the first to score in the third quarter. McCormack darted to the net, sending the ball over the head of Blazers' goalie Gianna Liquori. Daniella Bruno (from Holly Sullivan) led the Seahawks to a 15-1 game with 15 minutes left to play. Three more Seahawks scored in the final quarter, including Trinity Custodia (from Francesca Perry) who netted the last goal of the game. Edie Threshie posted three goals over 60 minutes, earning a hat trick for the day.
