MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Nine different players scored for the Salve Regina University women's lacrosse team as it defeated visiting UMass Dartmouth 19-6 in non-conference action at Gaudet Field.

The Seahawks have won three in a row over the Corsairs and own a 13-9 record in the all-time series.

Three Stars of the Game

  1. Salve Regina senior Nicole Smith (North Attleboro, Mass.) had a career-high six goals to lead the Seahawks attack.
  2. UMass Dartmouth sophomore Melanny Sanchez Alvarez (Stamford, Conn.) scored five times as she continues to pace the Corsairs in scoring.
  3. Salve Regina freshman Holly Sullivan (Pembroke, Mass.) scored four times.

Turning Point
Holly Sullivan scored thirty seconds into the game and Salve Regina never looked back as the Seahawks raced out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Sanchez Alvarez scored to open the second quarter for the Corsairs but another quick 4-0 burst from the Seahawks made it 11-1. Sanchez Alvarez again scored to duck back under the double-digit mark before Brynn Mendes (Centerville, Mass.) scored her first career goal to reestablish the 10-goal lead. The Seahawks would lead by double figures the remainder of the game.

Quick Hits

  • The Corsairs scored the final four goals of the game. Sanchez Alvarez scored three times along with sophomore Hannah Mitus (Belchertown, Mass.) to set the final 19-6 margin.
  • Payton Conceicao (New Bedford, Mass.) made eight saves in the loss to fall to 1-3.
  • Grace Haesche (Warwick, N.Y.) made three saves in the first half to improve to 3-0 in net before Caroline Watson (Wrentham, Mass.) Kiely Callahan (Glastonbury, Conn.), and Ellee Kopecky (Warren, R.I.) split time in the second half for the Seahawks.
  • Emma Breen (Norwell, Mass.), Molly Norton (Londonderry, N.H.), Brynn Mendes, and Emma Periera (Easton, Mass.) each scored their first career goals for the Seahawks.
  • Salve Regina held a 38-12 edge in shots.
