NEWPORT, R.I. - The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has selected Salve Regina University freshman Grace Haesche (Warwick,N.Y.) as both its Rookie and Defensive Player of the Week for women's lacrosse.

CCC Rookie/Defensive Player of the Week - Haesche made 19 saves for Salve Regina in her collegiate debut and earned a 9-7 victory over Simmons. She was challenged from the opening draw being forced to make nine saves in the first quarter alone. Down the stretch, she made three fourth quarter stops to preserve the victory. She finished the game with a 73.1 save percentage.

"Grace is a tremendous asset for the entire team," said head coach Bill Villareal. "She brings a positive attitude and continues to work hard every day to be the best out on the field. She spectacular versus Simmons and stepped up her game when we needed her the most and the team responded."

Salve Regina (1-0) hosts Emmanuel (Mass.) on Thursday, March 10, for the Seahawks home opener at 6:30 p.m.
