MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Freshman attack Chloe Chevrier (West Suffield, Conn.) scored the go-ahead goal with 1:36 remaining and visiting Curry College women's lacrosse team hung on for a 17-16 victory over Salve Regina University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.

Curry went on a 7-1 run in the second half to build a 16-13 lead, but the Seahawks answered with three straight, capped by a Kelly Ventura (Floral Park, N.Y.) goal at 2:20 remaining to knot things at 16-16.

The Colonels won the following draw control and capitalized quickly with the goal from Chevrier to retake the lead. The Seahawks could not gain possessions after the ensuing draw and Curry was able to play keep-away and run out the clock to secure their first victory of the season.

Stephanie Szelest (Bethlehem, N.Y.) led all scorers with five goals, four of which came on free position for Salve Regina. Meanwhile senior Allie Wysocki (Agawam, Mass.) paced the Colonels attack with four goals and an assist. Chevrier finished with a hat-trick along with teammates Taylor Gallagher (Rockland, Mass.) and Sharon Doherty (North Easton, Mass.).

Caroline Watson (Wrentham, Mass.) made her second start of the season and falls to 0-2 after making 10 saves for the Seahawks. Jessica Ginaitt (Warwick, R.I.) posted seven saves for the Colonels in the win to improve to 1-3 between the pipes.

Both squads lived on free position with the Colonels going 5-of-11 and the Seahawks potting 6-of-10 free positions shots.

Salve Regina (1-3, 0-2 CCC) will travel to play Western New England on Thursday, April 15. Curry (1-3, 1-3 CCC) will travel to face the University of New England on Saturday, April 10.
