Women's Lacrosse #5 - Villareal takes over program and earns first collegiate victory as head coach (March 13, 2015)
NEWPORT, R.I. - A long, brutal winter kept Salve Regina spring sports teams inside until their first competitions. Even then, snow was piled high outside the playing area. First-year head coach Bill Villareal guided his women's lacrosse team to its first victory of 2015 as the Seahawks led from start to finish at Eastern Connecticut State University.
Kaitlin Gillespie and Gina Tortorici paced the Seahawks offensively with four goals apiece; senior Sarah Woods added three goals on a game-high 10 shots.
Josephine O'Reilly returned as a post-graduate player to handle goalkeeping duties for Villareal. The Portsmouth (R.I.) native stopped nine of 19 shots faced in the 60 minutes.
