Scots snap Seahawks three-game win streak

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – Sophomore Anna Blomberg (Simsbury, Conn.) scored a game-high six goals to lead the Gordon College women's lacrosse team to a 17-14 victory over Salve Regina University at Gaudet Field on Saturday evening. The loss drops the Seahawks to 9-4 overall and 2-3 during Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action, while the Fighting Scots improve to 9-3 on the season, including a 3-2 conference mark.
Junior Kelly Burke (Georgetown, Mass.) paced the Seahawks with a team-high five points and four goals, while sophomore Grace Kelly (Auburn, Mass.) added three markers of her own. Junior Danielle Malconian (Belmont, Mass.) led all players with five ground balls on the day, while senior Sarah Livingston (Westford, Mass.) and freshman Mary-Ashley Donelan (Upton, Mass.) both scored twice for the Seahawks.
Blomberg paved the way for the Scots with her six goals, while senior Krysti Leach (Naples, Maine) led all players with 16 draw controls on the day. Sophomore Stephanie Fitzgerald (Groveland, Mass.) had a solid all-around performance, compiling two goals, one assist, 12 draw controls, and two caused turnovers in the win, while sophomore Danielle Maguire (Braintree, Mass.) made 14 saves in net to earn her ninth win of the season.
The Scots jumped out to an early 5-2 advantage over the opening 19 minutes of play, receiving a pair of scores from Blomberg.
The Seahawks managed to cut the lead down to two when Kelly scored an unassisted goal with just nine seconds left in the half to send the two teams into the break with the Scots holding a 9-7 edge.
The Scots came out strong in the second half, scoring six of the first seven goals of the period to open up a 15-8 advantage.
The Seahawks managed to outscore the Scots 6-2 the rest of the way, but eventually ran out of time as Gordon held on for the 17-14 victory.
The Scots will host Worcester State on Thursday at 7 p.m., while the Seahawks return to the field on Tuesday, traveling to face Curry in a CCC contest starting at 4 p.m.
