Seahawks have no luck vs Gulls on St. Patty's Day

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - The Endicott College women's lacrosse team jumped out with an 8-0 run to began the game, defeating Salve Regina University by a final score of 15-6 during a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup at Gaudet Field on St. Patrick's Day. The loss was the first of the season suffered by the Seahawks who now fall to 3-1 (0-1 CCC) on the year, while the Gulls improve to 3-1 overall and 1-0 during conference play.

Senior Sarah Livingston (Westford, Mass.) and junior Jennifer Jones (Basking Ridge, N.J.) each scored two goals for Salve Regina, with Jones adding a team-high three ground balls. Freshman Gina Tortorici (Deer Park, N.Y.) also played well, compiling two points with both a goal and an assist while also grabbing a team-best five draw controls on the afternoon. Sophomore Alyssa Corvi (Barrington, R.I.) added a goal for Salve Regina, while sophomore Molly Shine (Southborough, Mass.) contributed one assist.

The Gulls were paced by junior Holly Davis (Guilford, Conn.) who led all players with five goals and four ground balls, while also collecting five draw controls. Junior Kelly Tierney (South Hadley, Mass.) and senior Morgan DeShaw (Danville, N.H.) both earned six points in the victory, with Tierney scoring four goals and Hadley dishing-out a game-high four assists. Sophomore Callie Murphy (Woburn, Mass.) chipped-in with three goals while senior goalie Leah Neff (South Berwick, Maine) earned the win in net for the Gulls, improving to 3-1 on the season.

The Gulls wasted no time jumping on the board, scoring the game's first marker just 22 seconds into the opening half, sparking an 8-0 run over the first 11:46 of play. Tierney led the charge with three goals and an assist during the run, while DeShaw compiled three points on a goal and a pair of helpers.

Jones finally answered for the Seahawks with an unassisted marker at 14:47 to cut the Gulls' lead down to 8-1.

However, Endicott responded by closing out the half with three consecutive goals to go into the break holding an 11-1 advantage.

After the Gulls received goals from Murphy and Davis to begin the second half, the Seahawks fought back with an unassisted score by Corvi to get back within 13-2.

The Gulls expanded their lead to 15-2 with an unnassisted marker by Tierny followed by Davis' fifth goal of the contest which was set up by a nice feed from freshman Kirsten Thor (Longmeadow, Mass.).

Refusing to go quietly, the Seahawks battled back with four unanswered goals over the final 3:47 of play. Shine set up Tortorici to get the run started before Livingston followed with back-to-back scores. Jones capped the run with a free position goal as time ran out on the Seahawks, moving the final score to 15-6.

The Gulls will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to face #18 Bates at 5:30 p.m., while the Seahawks will hit the road on Thursday, facing Simmons in a non-conference contest starting at 7 p.m.
