Seahawks improve to 2-0 with win over Corsairs

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Visiting Salve Regina scored eight consecutive goals to open up an 11-2 first half lead and went on to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's lacrosse team, 18-8,  in a non-conference match at Cressy Field Saturday.

Sophomore attacker Alyssa Corvi (Barrington, R.I.) and junior attacker Jennifer Jones (Basking Ridge, R.I.) each scored twice during the run.

The Corsairs rallied, with junior attacker Brittney Enos (East Falmouth, Mass.) scoring the final three goals of the first half to make it 11-5 at the intermission. Enos scored twice more for UMD in the second half.

Senior attacker Sarah Livingston (Westford, Mass.) scored twice for the Seahawks in the opening moments, while sophomore midfielder Taylor Corsano (Bourne, Mass.) scored once to make it 2-1. Junior midfielder Kelly Burke (Georgetown, Mass.) of SRU and Corsair freshman attacker Shelby Friedland (New Bedford, Mass.) then traded goals before the Seahawks took a commanding lead.

Enos led the Corsairs with five goals and one assist, while Friedland scored twice. Livingston had four goals for SRU, while freshman midfielder Gina Tortorici (Deer Park, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Grace Kelly (Auburn, N.Y.) each had three goals.

The Seahawks outshot the Corsairs, 31-16. Junior goalkeeper Angelina Donovan (Medford, Mass.) of UMD made 12 saves, while sophomore Josie O'Reilly (Middletown, R.I.) was credited with two stops while earning her second win on the season.

UMass Dartmouth dropped to 1-1 with the defeat, while Salve Regina improved to 2-0 with the victory. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Massachusetts Maritime Thursday evening. The Seahawks will host Bridgewater State on Tuesday.
