Endicott scores 13 straight goals in first half to sink Seahawks, 18-8

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Senior Molly Sowles (Yarmouth, Maine) scored three goals and sophomore Holly Davis (Guilford, Conn.) racked up four points (2 G, 2 A) to lead Endicott College to an 18-8 win over Salve Regina University in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) women's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon during a light snowstorm at Gaudet Field.

Senior Carin Czerniawski (Monroe, Conn.), juniors Michelle Loizzo (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Morgan DeShaw (Danville, N.H.), and sophomore Caitlin Pratt (Bow, N.H.), each scored two goals for the Gulls, who evened their record at 3-3 (3-0 TCCC) and stretched their win streak against the Seahawks (1-5, 1-2 TCCC) to 15 games. Junior Sarah Livingston (Westford, Mass.) and sophomores Megan Clancy (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Kelly Burke (Georgetown, Mass.) all scored twice for Salve Regina, which saw its losing skid reach four games.

Burke staked the Seahawks to an early 1-0 lead with a goal at 27:18. Minutes later, she appeared to give SRU a 2-0 lead before the goal was called back due to a crease violation. That seemed to stall the Seahawks momentum and spark the Gulls, who scored the next 13 goals to grab a 13-1 lead. Sowles, Davis, DeShaw, and Czerniawski each scored twice during the span. Burke's 22nd marker of the season with 4:54 to go in the half snapped the Endicott run and made it 13-2. Sowles answered with her third goal of the game to complete the hat trick less than two minutes later, and a late goal by Clancy for SRU made the score 14-3 at halftime.

Pratt scored both of her goals in the second half, the second of which pushed the Endicott lead to 18-5. The Seahawks received a goal from Burke at 5:15 and a pair from Livingston at 4:11 and 2:00 to close the scoring.

The Gulls outshot the Seahawks 36-14, held a 15-1 edge in ground balls, and won 17 of 28 draw controls, led by Davis' four. For the Seahawks, sophomore Danielle Malconian (Belmont, Mass.) and freshman Karley Malenczak (Sayville, N.Y.) each recorded three caused turnovers.

Junior Leah Neff (South Berwick, Maine) got the start in goal for Endicott and made one save to pick up her third win of the season. Freshman Rachel Socolow (Westford, Mass.) came on to start the second half and recorded two saves. Junior Natalie Balletta (Leominster, Mass.) stopped nine Endicott shots.

The Seahawks return to action on Saturday when they travel to Paxton, Mass. for a 3 p.m. game at Anna Maria. The Gulls host Nichols at noon on Saturday.
