Curry remains unbeaten with 19-8 win at Salve Regina

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Senior Ashley Hansbury (Chelmsford, Mass.) scored nine goals to lead the Curry College women's lacrosse team to a 19-8 win over Salve Regina University in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action Saturday afternoon at Gaudet Field.

Senior Jessie Hoffman (Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Ana Bottary (Hull, Mass.) each scored three goals for the Colonels, who remain perfect on the season at 5-0 (1-0 TCCC). Sophomore Kelly Burke (Georgetown, Mass.) registered four goals for the Seahawks, who slipped to 1-4 (1-1 TCCC).

 

Freshman Kaitlin Cloutier (Montpelier, Vt.) scored twice for the Colonels while junior Lauren Glavin (Billerica, Mass.) and freshman Deanna Monfredo (West Islip, N.Y.) each found the back of the net once. Junior Sarah Livingston (Westford, Mass.), sophomore Megan Clancy (Chelmsford, Mass.), and freshmen Kayla Sheehan (Pomfret, Conn.) and Grace Kelly (Auburn, N.Y.) each scored for SRU.

 

Salve Regina held an early 2-1 lead, but a 5-0 spurt by the visitors gave them a 6-2 lead at 13:54 of the first half. Curry went on to score six of the next 10 goals and take a 12-6 lead into the half. Hansbury led the charge with five goals while Bottary netted three and Koffman potted two. Burke led the Seahawks with three goals. The Colonels outshot the Seahawks 27-11 and held SRU to under 50 percent on clear attempts (7-of-15).

 

Hansbury and Cloutier scored back-to-back goals to open the second half and stretch the Curry lead to 14-6. After Burke answered for the Seahawks at 20:08 to make it 14-7, the Colonels rallied back with five unanswered goals - including three from Hansbury - to pull away. They outshot the Seahawks 14-8 in the half to bring the game total to 41-19.

 

Senior Maria Lynch (Billerica, Mass.) started in goal for the Colonels and made seven saves on the afternoon. Salve Regina junior Natalie Balletta (Leominster, Mass.) finished the afternoon with 10 saves.

 

The Seahawks return to action on Wednesday when they host Endicott at 4:30 p.m. The Colonels return to 'The Ocean State' on Tuesday to face Roger Williams at 4 p.m.
