Seahawks eliminated by top-seeded Gulls

BEVERLY, Mass. - Endicott's Valerie Feldman (Albany, N.Y.) had a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists as the No. 1 seeded Gulls downed eighth-seeded Salve Regina, 23-5, in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's lacrosse quarterfinal matchup on Saturday afternoon in Beverly, Mass. Endicott now turns its attention to Wednesday when the Gulls will host No. 4 Western New England College.

After two quick goals from Salve Regina's Nicole Viola (Scarborough, Maine) and Kelly Burke (Georgetown, Mass.), Endicott responded with seven straight strikes, including two apiece from Feldman and Carin Czerniawski (Monroe, Conn.) to open up a 7-2 lead.

The Seahawks and Gulls traded goals for a brief four minute period in the middle of the first half before the Gulls went on another lengthy run, this time finding the back of the net for six straight to head into the intermission with a 15-4 lead.

In the second, Endicott continued its smothering attack with five more consecutive goals to push the lead to 16. Salve Regina's Nicole Viola broke the streak with a free-position goal, but then the Gulls ended the day with three more scores to cement the 23-5 win.

Along with Feldman, the Gulls got four goals from Morgan DeShaw (Danville, N.H.). Molly Sowels (Cumberland, Maine) added three goals and one assist while Holly Davis (Guilford, Conn.) also potted three tallies and one helper. Carin Czerniawski scored three times while Kristen Micho (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored twice. Leah Neff (South Berwick, Maine) made 12 stops in the win.

Nicole Viola and Kelly Burke each scored twice for the Seahawks. Mara-Lise Owen (Germantown, Md.) had SRU's only other goal on the day. Sophomore goalkeeper Natalie Balletta (Leominster, Mass.) had 10 saves, including 10 in the first half.

Endicott held a decisive 38-19 shots advantage and won the groundball game, 30-20. The Gulls also cleared the ball at a 12-of-15 clip compared to the Seahawks' 5-of-12.\
