MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (Friday, February 16, 2024)-- Women's ice hockey was blanked 3-0 by the University of New England Nor'easters for the Seahawks last home game of the 2023-24 regular season.

Salve Regina held hockey fights cancer night to honor Band of Parents, a nonprofit organization founded in 2007 that raises funds for neuroblastoma research and treatment. All proceeds of the evening were donated to the organization. Together with ticket sales and direct donations, several local businesses donated products and services, with raffle profits benefitting Band of Parents.

BREAKDOWN:

The Seahawks and Nor'easters took to the ice in a similar fashion, and it was almost an entire period before either team made any offensive moves. The Nor'easters made it a 1-0 day with 14:45 gone in the game. University of New England gained control of the puck behind Salve Regina's net. The Nor'easters quickly made a pass directly in front of the crease and slid it in for the goal. Two more University of New England goals came in period two, the first occuring at 6:02 on the clock. New England took a shot from the blue line, and it was poked in right in front of the net.

The third and final University of New England goal of the day, at 7:42 in the second period, came off a backhand shot from the Nor'easters in the low slot. Despite a six on five situation in the final minute of the third period when Ellee Kopecky quickly exited the ice, Salve Regina was unable to get on the board in the encounter.

ON THE HORIZON:

The last game of the regular season is Saturday, February 17, on the road at Nichols College at 4:40 p.m.
