MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (Saturday, February 3, 2024)-- Women's ice hockey relented 4-1 to Western New England after the Golden Bears scored just 46 seconds into the Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup.

BREAKDOWN:

The Golden Bears got right down to business when Maddie Pope netted the team's first goal just 46 seconds into action. With a countermove at 7:02 into the first period Emily Wroblewski (from Ashtyn Bringardner) took a slap shot, going high into the left side of Western New England's goal. It was a tied game after 20 minutes, but Golden Bears' Brie Dube inched the team ahead ever so slightly by scoring in the first five minutes of period two on the power play.

The contest was not over even though the Golden Bears had a 2-1 lead going into the final 20 minutes of regulation. The turning point came at 4:59 when Golden Bears' Kelly Yorkey scored on the power play, the first of her two contributions in the final period. After Salve Regina made the decision to pull the goalie from the ice, making it 6-5 skaters, Yorkey struck again from the opposite end of the ice, sending the puck into the Seahawks net for a 4-1 final.

  • Golden Bears' Rieley Jessie-Gerelli is credited with the win. She moves to 7-4-2 for the season. Jessie-Gerelli faced 30 shots on net.
  • Sydney Baxter moves to 4-8-1 for the season after making 22 saves.
